Knot is a habit app you use together with one or more other people. To share one streak across devices, Knot runs a small backend server on its own infrastructure in Germany, not one of the big cloud providers.

ACCOUNT
When you first open the app it creates an anonymous account for you on the server, identified only by a random token. No e-mail, phone number or real name is required. The token is kept in your device keychain and, if you use iCloud Keychain, shared with your other Apple devices so your iPhone and iPad use the same Knot profile.

WHAT IS STORED ON THE SERVER
• the display name you enter
• the habits (knots) you create and their settings
• who is in each knot and the invite codes
• your daily check-ins (which day, and the time)
• proof photos you attach: visible to the other members of that knot, who can save their own copy; removed from the server after 3 days
• "nudges" you send
• chat messages inside a knot: visible to that knot's members; deleted automatically after the chosen window (max 30 days) unless someone marks a message as "kept"
• abuse reports you submit

This data is stored so the people in your knot can see the shared streak. It is not sold, and not shared with third parties except Apple (for subscriptions) and the hosting infrastructure.

ON YOUR DEVICE
Photos you choose to keep in the "Saved" tab, and app settings, stay on your device.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
Knot+ is sold through Apple. Payment and management happen in your Apple account; we never see your payment details. Apple provides anonymised sales reports.

NOTIFICATIONS
While the app is open or active in the background it checks the server periodically and shows a local notification when someone in your knot checks in or nudges you. A future version may add push notifications.

ANALYTICS / TRACKING
Knot does not track you and uses no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

YOUR RIGHTS
"You & Knot → Delete all data" deletes your server account and everything linked to it, and clears the app. You can also leave a single knot in its settings. Contact us to exercise any GDPR right.
